An app for busy people who love their plants

I designed HouseProud after finding that I would neglect my plants for weeks on end as my schedule became too busy that I would forget to give them the care consideration they needed! I found speaking to my friends and family this was a common phenomena, and we were all trying our best to pull ourselves out of this repeating pattern. This is where I started thinking about HouseProud.

For this project I followed the Design Thinking Framework which follows Empathise > Define > Ideate > Prototype > Test

User Research

As mentioned in the introduction, after having numerous discussions with friends and family members about the struggles in keeping house plants healthy. I began the design process by conducting more formal interviews to establish the goals and frustrations of the potential user base.

These interviews were then distilled into user personas.

As a gardening enthusiast, I want to have somewhere that I can keep track of how all my plants are doing so that I can feel safe in knowing that none of them are being neglected

As a busy and social professional, I want to be reminded when I need to take care of my plants so that I don’t have to worry about them whilst I am out and about

As a plant novice, I want to know I am looking after my new plants correctly so I can be sure they are growing as they should

The Goal Statement

Our houseplant app will let users create personal care plans for their plants which will help users that have busy schedules and often forget about their plants by sending them periodical reminders to take care actions for their plants. We will measure effectiveness by tracking people’s engagement with the push notifications to see if they are taking actions with their plants.
